Update 0.11 coming VERY soon! Also, about future releases...

The last update for PJSF was released in December 2022. After a year in the works, update 0.11 is very nearly ready for launch!

This update turned out much larger than I originally planned, but that means there's BIG new changes and improvements! Read about the latest additions below!

Biggest Changes:

  • Vehicle physics have been entirely overhauled!
  • Four new cars have been added: HotRod, Venom, Rodster, and Sled!
  • New Track: Downtown!
  • Dynamic lighting across the entire game! Entire project now uses Unity URP.
  • Brand new high-res textures for older cars!
  • New customization: Paint, Neon, and Tires!

NEW VEHICLE PHYSICS

NewPhysics

Vehicle physics have been reworked... again! This time, the core of the engine and tire code is mostly unmodified but the vehicles themselves are built a bit differently. You will no longer experience random launching from the floor, bouncing out of landings, or awkward stuck against wall situations. The new physics do present their own minor problem with the car seemingly being magnetically attracted to the floor off the end of a jump, but this is really minor. Actually, it probably improves lap times since the car touches the floor sooner after a jump. I believe this is an issue with Unity Wheel Suspension being set to really high damping values. We'll have to experiment with it a bit more and see if it can be sorted out. Let us know if  you have any suggestions!

FOUR NEW CARS

NewCars

To hopefully make up for how long you've all had to wait for this update, 0.11 features FOUR new cars! The HotRod from Rush 2 embraces the spirit of Rush's cancelled spiritual successor Hot Rod Rebels, and uses it's MASSIVE engine power to wheelstand off the line! The Venom is the first car from 2049 console to enter the PJSF lineup. It's pretty easy to drive and handles well, and is fast to boot! Dyspro50 over on the Team Rush Discord server managed to crack open the Rush 2049 Special Edition files, something the rest of us have been trying to do for years! Thanks to him, the arcade-exclusive Rodster and Sled from Rush 2049 Special Edition make their way to Project San Francisco!

NEW TRACK: DOWNTOWN

Downtown is one of the few remaining tracks from San Francisco Rush that isn't already in PJSF. It's a dense city track and takes place in the Downtown area of San Francisco. It features sharp angular turns, but it isn't too hard if you practice bouncing over all those sidewalks! This route even features its own small stunt area and a newly-added shortcut, exclusive to PJSF! Can you find it?

DYNAMIC LIGHTING

DynamicLighting

To improve the graphical quality of PJSF, the entire project has been converted to Unity URP! Kogey on the Team Rush Discord server has been cooking up some awesome baked and realtime lighting

PAINT, NEON, TIRES, HIGH RES TEXTURES

Paint and Neon

Switching to URP allows us to have much more control over the graphical appearance of the game, as well as opens the door to many new possibilities with Unity shadergraph! Thanks to shadergraph, we were able to easily implement paintable bodywork for all cars. We can easily expand this system and plan to add multiple paintable liveries for each car in the future.

You can further enhance the look of your ride with the new Neon feature! Neons give your car a vibrant underglow and make a statement at night... or in the day!

All cars now look extra beautiful with newly upscaled textures, too! Every car has been brought in line with Rush 2049 DC's quality textures, making them look better than ever before! Thanks to |3unny on the Team Rush Discord server for thier hard work!!

In addition to cosmetics, you can also customize your car's handling with five new tires to choose from! If you prefer loose or tight handling, now you can tune any car just how you like it. Options include Drift, Radial, Sport, Slick, and Drag tires.

FUTURE RELEASES

Because this update took so long, we're going to change my method for future updates. Instead of finishing large features and releasing them all at once, we'll instead release more in-progress builds so you can see what we're working on and how it's going. This may allow more bugs to slip through the cracks but it'll be a great way to get some early feedback on what we're working on, and it'll help this page look much less abandoned! Don't forget to use the itch.io launcher to keep your game install up to date automatically!

If you prefer to only play large updates with the latest content and features, keep an eye out for the big number in the version number. That's 0.11, 0.12, etc. We'll also post about major updates when they launch!
